Welcome To Green Home Outfitters!

Welcome to Green Home Outfitters Blog: “Speaking of Green”. We are excited to share tips, interesting facts, useful information and have a chance to hear what’s on your mind.

Green Home Outfitters (GHO for short) was started July 2006 by 2 friends Julie Dill and Charlotte Lovett and their husbands Stanley Dill and Alan Lovett. It’s been nearly a year since we committed to a path of greening our lives and helping others do the same. It’s not that we were unaware of healthful living; it’s just that our level of commitment needed a tune-up. It is so easy in our busy lives just to buy and use what is readily available, whether we like it or not. We made up our minds to start voting for healthier products and services with our dollars, time, efforts and conversations.

We also made up our minds that we would do the research and provide our customers the best selection of top quality products that improve and protect the air we breathe every day inside our homes. That is where our product consultant Alyssa Alvord comes in. Alyssa is well known in our area as a consultant to people with chemical sensitivities, the green building community, and natural health and wellness community. She hosts a “Green Living” radio show from time to time, and “Build it Green” TV show that airs across the country. Alyssa pointed us toward the exceptional flooring, paint and cleaning product companies you see in our showroom and in our web store. Plus more! Check out her website, www.alyssaalvord.com because she has a lot to offer.

The “Green Quartet” (Julie, Stanley, Charlotte and Alan) made up their minds about some other things, too. We know how important it is to be green, and how challenging it can be to locate quality products at prices so reasonable that the choice is a no brainer. Well, we cracked that code and made a commitment to make green and clean easily accessible and affordable to you. So all you have to do is come to Blanco, Texas (that’s in the beautiful Texas Hill Country), call us at 830-833-5948, or visit us on line at www.mygho.com to see what I mean. (Our website is still a work in progress….so pardon our pot holes.)

The best to you from your GHO blogger, Charlotte.

Green project

I’m building a house for a friend in Boerne, TX (that’s the in the Hill Country) and you can come see the progress at http://envirologics.com/pinson. Some of the green design aspects are pier and beam foundation, agriboard (compressed wheat SIP’s) walls, metal roof, rainwater catchment, and solar power. We will use zero voc paints, made on site cabinets of solid wood, tile counters, tile, marmoleum and bamboo flooring with non toxic adhesives. As a builder, I am going local as much as possible and keeping the site fairly undisturbed. Look at the website for drawings, photos and a blog: http://envirologics.com/pinson. Andy
